Executive Chairman,  Malta Gaming Authority

Joseph Cuschieri is a Certified Public Accountant by profession and a fellow member of the Malta Institute of Accountants of Malta. He is specialised in management accounting, finance & general management and holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Henley Management College, UK. He also holds a Diploma in Management Accounting from the Chartered Institute of Management Accounting (CIMA), UK. Throughout his professional career, he held various senior executive positions within the private sector mainly in the construction, services, communications and hospitality industries amongst others. Prior to joining the MGA, Mr Cuschieri spent eight (8) years with Vodafone Malta, first as Head of Public Policy & Corporate Affairs and then as Chief Commercial Officer. He also spent a short stint as a senior consultant on business advisory services with Ernst & Young Malta.

During his time at Vodafone, Mr. Cuschieri was involved in key regulatory projects both in Egypt and Turkey. Furthermore, he spent a period of 18 months enrolled on the Vodafone Group’s global leadership development programme. He has vast experience in economic regulation and regulatory reform particularly in the electronic communications sector where he spent five years as Chief Operating Officer at the Malta Communications Authority. In his new role at the Malta Gaming Authority, Mr Cuschieri is focusing amongst other things on reforming the Authority to make it more efficient and agile, strengthening the relationships with all stakeholders, reforming the gaming sector’s regulatory framework, strategically developing the gaming sector and promoting Malta as a globally respected gaming jurisdiction. In February 2015, Mr. Cuschieri was awarded with the Hot 50 back stage heroes award by Gaming Intelligence.
